Description

Part of the "Self and Sex Series" for men and women and includes detailed advertisements with tables of contents for the other books.

A very detailed book offering both practical and moral advice for young men to transition from boys to husbands with a focus on male purity as the basis for physical and mental strength. The book opens with a refutation of the need for ignorance regarding masturbation and sexuality as it only leads to myths and confusion. Interestingly, Stall also advocates for the elimination of the sexual double standard for both moral and practical reasons, namely that your future children will be free of disease and poor character.

After a few chapters on the philosophy and practicality of sexual purity, the book covers numerous topics of interest to young men inlcuding: involuntary noctural emissions, gonorrhea, syphilis, when and who to marry, wedding expenses, vices to avoid (dancing, theater, alcohol, tobacco, etc.) and virtues to embrace (hard work, wisdom, good books, etc.). An additional supplement was also added to this edition featuring physical exercises used by the U.S. Navy.

Sylvanus Stall was a prominent Lutheran pastor in Pennsylvania who quit preaching to edit the church newspaper The Lutheran Observer and write books elucidating moral principles and their application in the modern era. He is most well-known for the "Self and Sex Series" but he also wrote many books to instruct children in the faith.
